Victoria Lessard is an MA student in Art History at McGill University. She is currently studying the constructions of race, gender, and sexuality in the cover art of historical romance novels of the late twentieth-century, specifically novels that feature pairings between Indigenous men and white women. She is also examining the relationships these covers share, visually and textually, with nineteenth-century artworks that depict “captivity narratives.” She has worked as a Research Intern for Maisonneuve magazine, the Culture Editor of The McGill Daily, and a Curatorial Intern at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
